Navigating Mealtime

Lesson 6 · 6.5 min

Since finding out you have high cholesterol, you may have been told to eat a “heart-healthy diet.” But what does that mean exactly?

The term refers to foods that lower your risk for cardiovascular disease and help you manage heart disease if you already have it. This type of diet can help:

  • manage your weight
  • lower blood pressure and blood sugar
  • improve cholesterol and triglyceride numbers

All heart-healthy diets have a few ingredients in common.
